Yeah! This month’s theme is chosen by meeeeeeeee! And I love it, because Iris Apfel is the woman I always wanted to be. But you know, in my childhood, being different was not done and children can be very cruel.
Now I am a grownup and still asking myself what type of woman I wanted to be.
Match Made in Seven
Welcome to the monthly edition of Match made in Seven! We are an international group of fashion bloggers who meet once a month. One of us chooses a theme in turn, and that can be anything. A book, music, a color, a movie. And then we style an outfit based on that theme. The theme of this month is chosen and is: Ode to Iris Apfel
Also take a look at the other bloggers how they have interpreted the theme this month.

Who is Iris Apfel?
Before I start showing my fashion style, totally inspired by this amazing woman, I have to show you who she is.
Iris Barrel, born in 1921. Iris Apfel is one of fashion’s most instantaneously recognisable tastemakers. She has been the subject of several museum exhibitions, a coffee-table book, a documentary and even a campaign for MAC cosmetics. In 2018 Mattel made a Barbie doll looking like Iris.
In 1948, she married Carl Apfel. Two years later they launched the textile firm Old World Weavers and ran it until they retired in 1992. Apfel once described her textile designs as “classic but over the top” to the London Evening Standard.
Let’s be my own ‘Iris’
As a Graphic Designer I love the way she dresses, to be brave and style her outfits like no one else! But I think every piece is chosen to match in a sort of strange fashion show.
It was very difficult to choose my clothing, because I don’t wear colors as you know. But, my mum had some very nice necklaces and I found some beautiful bracelets on the internet, we call it Marktplaats.
So, that was step 1! What shall I wear?
At an event I got this beautiful scarf, so there you have my color piece, matching my jewelry. My blouse has some very strange, but lovely sleeves, like I have black wings. Over my scarf I wear a black belt.
Because Iris Apfel is also a shoe addict, I wanted to wear my Flue Vog shoes I bought last year for my birthday.
My fake leather pants is so old, I had to repair some seams with the sewing machine.
The brooches that I wear and the earrings were allowed to borrow from my neighbor Roos.
I loved the bracelets and also wearing the necklaces but I don’t like to wear my fluffy vest. And the scarf styled around my body felt like a little bit to much. I had a hot hot 🥵 moment and needed to get rid of everything. So I did… and there is Sonja again!
I hope you enjoyed my fashion story… Ode to Iris Apfel!
I would like it if you visit the other lovely ladies and see how they made a match with the theme Accessories…
